Sarangkot Sunrise – Nepal's Most Spectacular Dawn
At 5:15 AM on a clear October morning, the first pale light touches the summit of Machapuchare — the sacred Fishtail Mountain that no human foot has ever stood upon. Over the next forty minutes, this light transforms: from silver to cream to gold to an almost unbearable burning orange, sweeping down the ridges of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Annapurna I as thousands of meters of glacial ice catch fire in the dawn. Below, Phewa Lake reflects it all in perfect, still silence. This is the Sarangkot sunrise, and it is one of the most magnificent natural spectacles in Asia.
Hotel Crown Himalayas is located just 8 kilometers and 30 minutes by private vehicle from the Sarangkot viewpoint, making this one of the most convenient sunrise experiences in Nepal for our guests. Our team arranges early morning transfers on request — you simply inform the front desk the evening before, and your vehicle will be waiting at whatever time you need.
Getting to Sarangkot from Hotel Crown Himalayas
- By Private Vehicle (Recommended): Our hotel arranges a private car or jeep from the hotel at around 4:30–5:00 AM. The 30-minute drive winds through sleeping streets and up the hillside road to the viewpoint. This is the most comfortable and reliable option.
- By Taxi: Available from Lakeside at any hour; easily arranged at the hotel reception.
- On Foot / By Hike: A steep 1.5–2 hour hike from Pokhara's Khadichowk area for those who want a proper pre-dawn adventure. Our team can arrange guide service for this option.
What Time Should You Arrive?
Aim to be at the viewpoint at least 30 minutes before official sunrise time. In October and November, sunrise typically occurs around 6:15–6:30 AM, so a 5:30 AM arrival is ideal. In January, sunrise is closer to 6:45 AM. Check the exact time with our front desk team, who monitor weather and sunrise schedules daily.
What to Bring
- Warm layers — Sarangkot at pre-dawn can be 5–10 degrees colder than Lakeside
- Camera and a wide-angle lens if you have one — the panorama is 180 degrees of Himalayan peaks
- A thermos of tea or coffee (Hotel Crown Himalayas can arrange a packed thermos on request)
- A small pack snack for the return journey
Beyond the Sunrise – Sarangkot Throughout the Day
Sarangkot is not only a sunrise destination. The paragliding launch site here is Nepal's most popular, and many guests combine an early morning sunrise visit with a tandem paragliding flight later in the morning, returning to Hotel Crown Himalayas for a well-earned brunch. The viewpoint also has small restaurants and tea shops if you want to linger and watch the morning unfold over the mountains.
Best Months for Sarangkot Sunrise
October through February offers the clearest skies and most dramatic Himalayan views. Post-monsoon October is considered the single finest month for mountain visibility at Sarangkot. Spring months (March–April) are also excellent. Monsoon season (June–September) clouds frequently obscure the peaks, but the occasional clear morning between rain days can be extraordinarily atmospheric.
Ask Hotel Crown Himalayas to arrange your Sarangkot sunrise transfer tonight, and prepare for one of the most beautiful mornings of your life.
